Brush fire burns in the Sepulveda Basin near Lake Balboa

One person was treated for a burn injury.

Firefighters Wednesday stopped the progress of a brush fire that broke out in the Sepulveda Basin area near Lake Balboa.

After fire crews responded to an initial call about a grass fire near 6400 N. Balboa Boulevard, the blaze quickly grew to scorch about 4 acres, being fanned by 5 mph winds.

“The fire extended into palm trees and has jumped the Orange Line,” the Los Angeles Fire Department said, explaining that it had to shut down the Orange Line between Woodley and White Oak.

There was no property damage from the fire although fire officials were concerned about flames reaching dangerous close to cars parked in a nearby parking lot.

The fire department also said it conducted water drops while firefighters established their positions on the ground.

One adult male was evaluated for a minor burn injury but declined to be taken to a hospital.
